Prince Philip

LONDON — Senior royals were congratulating Prince Philip as the husband of Queen Elizabeth II celebrated his 98th birthday in private.

In a tweet Monday, the royal family wished Philip “a very happy” birthday.

The British Army planned to fire gun salutes in Philip's honor. The Army tweeted that it is “determined to make it a good one.”

Some of Philip's children and grandchildren also posted tributes.

Philip has officially retired from public life although he is still occasionally seen with the queen at official events. He skipped President Donald Trump's visit.

He still drives a horse-drawn carriage on private grounds from time to time but has stopped driving cars since a serious car accident in January. He gave up his driver's license at the time.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Country singer Granger Smith says that his youngest son, River Kelly Smith, has died after an undisclosed accident.In a statement put out Thursday through his label, Smith said that after doctors were unable to revive the 3-year-old, the family decided to donate his organs to other children.Smith says that the family was heartbroken, but took solace that River was with God. The family asked that donations be made to Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas.Smith, who is signed to Broken Bow Records, has released songs “If The Boot Fits,” “Backroad Song” and “Happens Like That.” He and his wife, Amber, also have another son and a daughter.

NANTUCKET, Mass. — A Massachusetts judge says a phone used by a young man who says Kevin Spacey groped him at a bar must be turned over to the defense.The actor's lawyer told the judge at a hearing June 3 that they need the accuser's phone so an expert can try to recover text messages his lawyer says support Spacey's claims of innocence.Nantucket District Judge Thomas Barrett said Friday that the phone must be turned over by June 21.Spacey is accused of groping the then-18-year-old man in a crowded bar on the resort island in 2016.Spacey's lawyers say the man deleted text messages that could help the actor's defense.Spacey attended last Monday's hearing but didn't speak or respond to questions from reporters.The accuser's attorney declined to comment Friday.
