Slippery Rock High School Commencement - May 31

The commencement ceremony for Slippery Rock High School is set for 7 p.m. Friday at Morrow Field House, Slippery Rock University.

The student speakers are Oliver Valera, valedictorian, and Ashley Rodgers, salutatorian.

Oliver is the son of Ingrid Beaute and Manuel Valera of Slippery Rock. He challenged himself academically by taking 10 AP exams in various subjects including computer science, physics, and biology. In addition, Oliver has earned 21 credits by taking classes at Slippery Rock University this year.

Oliver plans to attend Johns Hopkins University in the fall where he will major in computer science and biophysics with a minor in applied mathematics.

Ashley is the daughter of Jay and Anita Rodgers of Butler. Ashley has excelled in many AP classes, served as the Interact president, Rock’N-Ettes captain, treasurer for student council, was a National Honor Society member, a Spark Leadership member, participant in the IUS sports program, performer in the school talent shows and served as the choreographer for the school’s musical productions.

Ashley plans on attending Duquesne University this fall to be part of the pharmacy program. She will continue her dance career as a “Dukette” on Duquesne’s dance team.

Class officers are Charlee Caldwell, president; Madigan Roxberry, vice president; Emily Sarver, secretary; and Morgan Waag, treasurer.
