Slippery Rock's baseball season came to a close Friday as the Rockets fell to Warren 2-1 in District 10 playoff action at Ainsworth Field in Erie.

“It was very much a pitcher's duel. That's the way baseball should be played, we just came out on the wrong end of it is all,” Slippery Rock coach Fred Pryor said.

Ian Balquist threw six innings for the Rockets, striking out three. Ben Berdine tossed a complete game for Warren, fanning seven.

“Ian was absolutely magnificent tonight,” Pryor said. “He did everything we asked of him. He grew up a lot this year.”

The Rockets drew first blood in the top of the second off a throwing error that scored Alex Duffalo. Slippery Rock then had runners on second and third, but was unable to add to its lead.

Warren grabbed the lead in the bottom of the fifth with two runs.

“(Berdine) did a good job of changing our eye angle,” Pryor said. “High, low. Inside, outside. And his change-up was really good.”

Softball

A-C Valley lost 5-1 toClarion in the semifinal round of the District 9 playoffs Friday night.

Cami McNany went 3-3 with a double and two singles for the Falcons, while Meah Lelase and Kelsie Terwilliger both added singles.

Bobcat pitcher Kait Constantino struck out 14.

“(Constantino) is probably the best pitcher in our league,” A-C Valley coach Bob Bowser said.

Clarion held just a one run lead through the first five innings before the Bobcats finally got to pitcher Baylee Blauser who competed in track and field earlier in the day.
