Jacob Palmer

Youths complete projects, earn Eagle Scout rank

Jacob Palmer, 17, of Renfrew earned the rank of Eagle Scout on March 27 with Troop 16 in Butler.

He is the son of Jay and Kim Palmer.

Jacob repaired the church sign for St. John's Reformed Church. He had the wooden sign refurbished, replaced the lighting with LED lights, and redid the landscaping. He also installed concrete edging around the sign with the year the church was founded stamped in the concrete.

Jacob has been in scouting for seven years and earned 41 merit badges. He has served as assistant senior patrol leader, patrol leader, quartermaster and troop guide. He plans to attend college for sports medicine or management.

Cyril Sheptak, 18, of Butler earned the rank of Eagle Scout on Oct. 24, 2018, with Troop 6 of Butler.A Butler High School senior, he is the son of Stephen and Missy Sheptak.Cyril and his family attend St. Vladimir Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Pittsburgh, whose paper church records were beginning to deteriorate with age. Cyril's Eagle project was to digitize, catalog, organize and deliver the records for translation from Ukrainian to English.Cyril has been scouting for 13 years and earned 31 merit badges. He has served as senior patrol leader, patrol leader and troop guide. He plans to attend Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C., to major in accountancy/political science.
