Snapchat threat leads to charges against student

A Butler High School student is charged with threatening another teen on Snapchat.

A Butler High School student is accused of threatening to shoot another student in a Snapchat post earlier this month, authorities said.

Butler Township police said the suspect, a 15-year-old Butler boy, is charged with terroristic threats, harassment and disorderly conduct. Police filed the charges today in Butler County juvenile court.

Police said the boy, who they did not identify, sent the Snapchat post to another student May 9 that threatened a 17-year-old boy. The suspect was detained immediately by county juvenile probation authorities, said police Lt. Matthew Pearson.

Police learned of the incident May 10 and began an investigation, which led to the charges.

The 15-year-old remains in the custody of juvenile court services.
