LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Ignore the lying media

For those who wistfully imagine living in the past, thinking how much better life would be, our country finally has a president who wants to lead us back to that idyllic time.

Remember reading about the splendid times of the Gilded Age when the captains of industry ran amok, crushing unions, creating monopolistic businesses ad keeping a large percentage of Americans living at a subsistence level? With the cutbacks in business and banking regulations favored by the fat cats, we are well on our way again to those glorious times.

Remember the good old days when coal was king? Pollution darkened the skies at noon and thousands were sickened by airborne pollutants. Well, those days are returning thanks to the relaxation of environmental protection standards.

Remember when African-Americans couldn’t vote and suffered greatly from discrimination? Well, you’ll be glad to know that the president and the white elite Republicans would like to suppress enough voters and gerrymander enough districts to do it all over again.

Remember when the president represented the good in America and his word was trusted? We now have a man in the White House who espouses divisiveness and attempts to suppress the various news outlets. If you want the truth, just read his tweets and ignore the lying media.

In the past two-plus years, America has regressed on many issues and social causes for which millions of citizens have fought and even died. I guess if you like the direction in which our country is headed, then happy days are here again.
