KARNS CITY — May 31 is the deadline to register for the Karns City High School Drama Club's summer theater camp.

The camp is designed to give young students in grades kindergarten through ninth grade an opportunity to learn the skills it takes to stage a Broadway-style musical. Students will spend three hours a day, beginning June 6, learning music, blocking, choreography and acting skills. Camp ends with a short performance at 6 p.m. June 12.

Registration forms are available at the high school.

MERIDIAN — Meridian Presbyterian Church, 4150 Highland Ave., will hold its second annual Block Party from 4 to 7 p.m. June 1 at the church.The party is open to everyone in the neighborhood and will feature food and fun for everyone including a dunk tank, yard games and a bouncy house for the children, as well as food and drinks.

CHICORA — Chicora Elementary School, 205 Kittanning St., won a $5,000 grant for the project titled “Crazy for Coding.” Teacher Dominique Borusiewic submitted the project.CenturyLink is awarding over $750,000 to fund nearly 200 classroom projects as part of the CenturyLink Clarke M. Williams Foundation's 2018-19 Teachers and Technology grant program.The Teachers and Technology program awards grants of up to $5,000 per project to schools in CenturyLink's local service and corporate locations on behalf of pre-K through 12th grade teachers who have developed plans to implement technology in their classrooms.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University has been named one of the safest colleges in the United States by the National Council for Home Safety and Security.The NCHSS is a national trade association comprised of licensed alarm installers, contractors and other relevant trade groups across the country. Its goal is to further industry education and public knowledge about home safety and security.The NCHSS compared 490 colleges and universities across the country utilizing FBI crime data, local law enforcement reports and police adequacy.
