Paul Kasunic of Jefferson Township was awarded the “Mr. Frankie” Award by Saint Francis University in Loretto as the top senior male student for the academic year.
Kasunic, a chemistry major, was presented the award by the Rev. Malachi Van Tassell, university president, for exemplifying scholarship, leadership, achievement and service to the university as well as the community.
Kasunic, who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry with a minor in biology, volunteered over 100 hours of community service during his time at the university.
He also participated in mission trips and was a NEC track and field medalist.
Community College of Allegheny County student Alexandria Parrotto, a North Catholic High School graduate, was recently awarded a scholarship from the Butler Memorial Hospital Nurses Alumni.
She plans to further her education to become a certified registered nurse anesthetist. She is the daughter of Melissa Smith and the granddaughter of Judy (Burr) Smith, graduate of the School of Nursing class of 1969.

Erika Hiwiller of West Sunbury was one of four members of the Thiel College Class of 2019 who earned valedictorian honors at the 145th commencement exercises on May 5.
Hiwiller graduated with a bachelor of science degree and majored in environmental science. She was a member of the Dietrich Honors Institute and is a 2015 graduate of Moniteau High School.
