Butler softball wins 1-0 game in 10 innings

McKenna Negley's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 10th inning plated Autumn Pettinato with the game's only run in Butler's 1-0 softball victory over Pine-Richland Wednesday afternoon.

Per rules beginning in the 10th inning, Pettinato began the frame on second base before stealing third.

The effort helped make a winner out of Butler starting pitcher Shelby Barnett, who was masterful in a complete game, striking out five, walking none and allowing just four hits.

Knoch 15, Blackhawk 4 — Erin Luffy homered and doubled for the Knights (10-0, 7-0), who remained unbeaten. Brynnae Coe, Bailey Rickenbrode, Monica Gourley, Sophie Brandon and Amanda Fischer all added two hits.

Knoch scored 12 runs in the first inning.

Freeport 10, Valley 0 — Tori Radvan had a double, single and three RBI for the Yellowjackets. Emily Schmidt homered, doubled and scored three runs while Madison Shanta added a home run and single.

Savanna Urik contributed two singles and an RBI. Freeport limited Valley to two hits.

Track and Field

Alexis Fennell, Sara Knox and Shavon McCanna each won multiple individual events for the Karns City girls in a 115-34 win over Cranberry.

Hunter Jones won a pair of events for the Gremlin boys in a 93-57 victory over the Berries.

A-C Valley could not avoid being swept by Keystone, the girls by a 78-71 count while the boys fell 80-70.

Baylee Blauser paced the Falcon girls with wins in the long jump, triple jump and a piece of the 4x100 relay.

Teddy Lessner won all three throwing events for A-C Valley's boys.

Ethan McDeavitt won the 400, high jump and triple jump to lead the Moniteau boys to a 92-58 win over Clarion.

Butler's tandem of Trevor and Tyler Bell won their first match in the Section 2 doubles tournament, defeating Moon, 10-0.

They dropped a 10-5 decision to North Allegheny in the second round.

Boys Lacrosse

Noah Vandewater scored three goals and Jimmy Border two, but Seneca Valley dropped a 12-5 decision to North Allegheny recently.
