11:43 p.m. Sunday — Robert E. Fair, 38, of Butler was allegedly caught with two syringes and three drug-smoking devices following a traffic stop on Campbell Avenue. Police said he was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped for faulty rear lighting.

Fair is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

10:58 p.m. April 16 — A Clarion County man was arrested for allegedly driving drunk on the 500 block of West Cunningham Street. Police said Daniel L. Wolfe, 33, of East Brady was pulled over for having an expired registration.

Officers subsequently learned that Wolfe was wanted on a bench warrant. They also allegedly noticed a number of open beer cans in the vehicle. He admitted having a “few beers” before driving, according to court documents.

Police said he failed field sobriety tests and a breath test later showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.117 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.

An inventory search of Wolfe’s vehicle turned up two small baggies of suspected marijuana in the glove box, documents said.

He is charged with driving under the influence, possession of a small amount of marijuana, driving with a suspended license and driving an unregistered vehicle.

7:41 p.m. April 16 — Donna M. Spare, 48, of East Butler was arrested for an alleged DUI on State Street. Police said they were on a call for a reported domestic when Spare drove upon the scene in a minivan.

The defendant parked and when she got out of the van, according to court documents, police allegedly saw a can of beer fall out. She denied drinking any alcohol, but police said she showed signs of impairment during field sobriety testing.

Police subsequently took her for a breath test that allegedly showed her blood-alcohol level was 0.114 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law. Spare is charged with DUI.

Tuesday — Malachi Void III, 31, of Butler was charged with shoplifting a television at the Butler Commons’ Walmart. Police said he was seen walking out of the store around 12:55 p.m. April 3 with a TV valued at $124.

Void is charged with retail theft.

5:51 p.m. April 15 — Lena Maharg, 18, of Butler was cited for making an illegal left turn that police say caused an accident at the intersection of Route 8 and Filbert Road.

Maharg’s vehicle collided with a vehicle driven by Bradley Riemer, 38, of Butler. Riemer suffered a minor injury and his juvenile passenger had a cut to the face and complained of dizziness.

3 p.m. April 9 — A vehicle driven by Nykita M. Vernot, 23, of Butler rear-ended another vehicle at New Castle and Hindman roads. Catherine Cavanaugh, 64, of Butler was the other driver.

No one was hurt, but both vehicles had to be towed. Police cited Vernot for driving at an unsafe speed.

April 1 — Emily M. Steinke, 25, of Butler was charged with retail theft and trespass stemming from an incident March 20 at the Butler Commons’ Walmart. Police noted that Steinke had previously been barred from the store for an unrelated shoplifting incident.

6:03 p.m. April 10 — Tyler S. Checkan, 18, and Kayla A. Grafton, 19, both of Evans City were caught allegedly failing to pay for 54 items while using a self-checkout register at the Butler Commons’ Walmart, The items totaled $256.64. Both defendants are charged with retail theft and conspiracy.

11:52 p.m. Monday — A Lawrence County woman was arrested for alleged drunken driving in Butler. Police said they stopped her after spotting her vehicle traveling without headlights at Bantam Avenue and Pillow Street.

The defendant, Shawne D. Balash, 54, of Volant, passed one field sobriety test, but failed two others, according to court documents. A consent search of the vehicle later turned up a suspected drug-smoking device.

Police said they took her to the barracks for an evaluation by a court-certified drug recognition expert and then to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. Toxicology results are pending,

Balash was arraigned on charges of driving under the influence, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving a vehicle without insurance, failing to carry her vehicle registration and two lighting violations. She was placed in the Butler County Prison on $2,000 bail following arraignment.

5:31 p.m. April 13 — Rachel M. Rausch, 38, of Evans City allegedly shoplifted assorted items of clothing and jewelry at the Clearview Mall Boscov’s store in Center Township. She is charged with retail theft.

10:39 a.m. April 13 — A sport utility vehicle driven by Michael Douglas-Heackles, 68, of Ontario, Canada, struck a deer on Interstate 79 in Worth Township. He was not hurt, but his vehicle had to be towed.

[naviga:h3]State Police, Kittanning[/naviga:h3]

April 13 — An unknown suspect entered storage sheds on South Jackson Avenue in Parker, but nothing was apparently taken. Police believe the suspect got inside by manipulating a door latch from the outside and opening a window. The apparent case of trespass took place between midnight and 2 p.m.
