[naviga:h3]Men’s chorus plans concert[/naviga:h3]

The Cranberry Men’s Chorus will “Sing, Sing, Sing!” for its concert May 4.

The chorus, known as The Bogmeisters, will perform along with the Jazz Conspiracy, Tickety-Boo Trio and chapter quartets.

Selections from the Big Band era are planned.

The concert will begin at 6:30 p.m. at North Catholic High School.

Tickets for adults are $12 in advance or $15 at the door. Students pay $5.

[naviga:h3]‘Small-town’ concert set[/naviga:h3]

Shane Alexander, formerly of Butler and now of California, will present a “Small-town in our Bloodstreams” concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Lincoln Hall, 42 S. Palmer St., Foxburg.

The folk rock singer/songwriter will play music from his albums including his upcoming seventh album, as well as some of his favorite covers,

“Skyway Drive-In” featuring many Butler landmarks is his most popular song.

He’s been making a living as a musician for about 12 years now, opening for the likes of Jewel, John Hiatt, Seal, Bon Iver, Suzanne Vega, Styx and Yes. Songs from his catalog have been featured in more than 100 television shows and films.

“Monet and the Modern City” will run May 25 to Sept. 2 at the Carnegie Museum of Art, 4400 Forbes Ave., Pittsburgh.

The theme of industry in art is examined through the lens of Claude Monet and his contemporaries.

Guest artist Susan Walker and Jennings Environmental Education Center staff will present the next installment of the Art and Nature series, Vernal Pools and Watercolors, at 2 p.m. May 5 at the center, 2951 Prospect Road, Brady Township.

Walker will lead the group in the creation of a personal piece of art, using watercolors to capture the scene of the vernal pool in a forested setting.

This program is for ages 12 and older.

The 18th annual Kaleidoscope Arts Festival at Slippery Rock University runs through Saturday.

In addition to varied music, theater and dance events, the family-centered Children’s Earth Day celebration at the Macoskey Center is noon to 6 p.m. Saturday at 247 Harmony Road.

Four Butler County bands will be participating in the Millvale Music Festival May 10 and 11.

Butler area bands include Appalachian Doom Gospel, Cape Cod, Lem and This is the World.

[naviga:h3]Irish fest changes sites[/naviga:h3]

The 29th annual Pittsburgh Irish Festival will be held Sept. 6, 7 and 8 at a new site, The Lots at Sandcastle, which is the main parking lot.

During the 2018 Irish Festival, Pittsburgh faced its second-highest rainfall ever recorded, flooding of the event grounds and forcing the cancellation of the festival’s third day.

From 1991 to 2006, the Pittsburgh Irish Festival was held in Station Square.

In 2007, the event was moved to the Riverplex at Sandcastle.

[naviga:h3]Meadowcroft to open May 4[/naviga:h3]

Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village in Ambridge will open for the season May 4.

Meadowcroft features a prehistoric rockshelter used for early human habitation, a 16th-century Monongahela Indian Village, an 18th-century Frontier Trading Post, and a 19th-century village.

Throughout May, hours are noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays.

From Memorial Day through Labor Day, hours are noon to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays, and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays.

Admission is $15 for adults, $14 for senior citizens, and $7 for students and children ages 6 to 17.
