4-vehicle accident result of medical emergency

A four-vehicle accident occurred around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday when an elderly woman suffered an apparent medical emergency in the parking lot at a professional building on the 200 block of South Cliff Street in Butler.

City police did not release the name of the woman, who was taken by ambulance to Butler Memorial Hospital for evaluation. She appeared “disoriented” afterward, police said, but it was not immediately known if she was injured in the accident.

Police said she was driving a Jeep Liberty and lost control of the vehicle while backing up. She backed into a Ford Explorer and a Volkswagen Passat that were parked in the lot.

“She then put it in drive and hit a (Chevrolet Avalanche pickup) that also was parked,” said police Sgt. Jeremy Walters.

There were no occupants in the parked vehicles. All the vehicles appeared to have minor damage.
