Rockets shine at relays

Maryann Ackerman won the javelin over the weekend as Slippery Rock High School competed in the Slippery Rock Relays.

Ackerman threw the javelin 144 feet, 1 inch. Slippery Rock University hosted the meet.

The Rockets' 4x100 meter relay team of Sierra Nagy, Emma McDermott, Tessa McHattie and Anna Kadlubek won their event with a time of 51.05 seconds.

Baseball

Jon Wetherholt tripled and scored the game's only run on an error as Mars defeated Shaler, 1-0, Monday.

Wetherholt tripled and doubled in the game. Shane Fox tossed a one-hit shutout for the Planets. He struck out three and issued no walks.

Mackenzie Dunn had two doubles, a single and two RBI Monday to lead Karns City to a 12-2 home softball win over Blackhawk in five innings.

Garrah Milochik contributed a double, single and two RBI for the Gremlins. Taylor Ekis had a single and two RBI.

Logan Byers struck out nine in tossing a complete game.
