Firefight spares mobile home

Firefighters responded Thursday afternoon to a fire that caught underneath a trailer at the Saxony Estates.

Homeowners escaped unharmed from their burning trailer on Thursday at the Saxony Estates.

Firefighters believe the fire started underneath the trailer between 5 and 5:30 p.m., according to Saxonburg Fire Chief Chris Ballina.

“The whole underneath was on fire when I got here,” Ballina said.

Ballina said upon arrival, all of the residence's fire detectors were working.

He said the fire was contained to the structure's underside. He said firefighters cut out a small portion of the wall checking for any extension of flames, but they found none.

In addition to the wall, the trailer also had damage to lower portions of the siding, but the interior had only a minor amount of smoke damage, according to Ballina.

Steven Davis, the trailer's owner, said he and his family were home when the fire started, and everyone got out safely.

“What's nice is I saved the inside of the house. I put it out with the hose,” Davis said. “Everything inside is intact.”

Neither the firefighters nor the homeowner was sure how the fire started.

Davis said his family will be staying with other family members until their home is cleaned.

Penn Township and Buffalo Township fire departments assisted the Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company at the scene.

Pennsylvania State Police and Saxonburg Ambulance also responded.
