Zimmerman tosses shutout for SV

Claire Zimmerman tossed a three-hit shutout and also doubled home a pair of runs in the first inning as the Seneca Valley softball team remained unbeaten with a 5-0 win Thursday afternoon over North Hills.

Zimmerman struck out two and didn't walk a batter in the victory. The Raiders' defense also played error-free.

Seneca Valley improved to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the section and will travel to Hempfield Monday.

Butler 6, Fox Chapel 1 — Madelyn Chapla homered and doubled and Shelby Barnett tossed a two-hitter to help the Golden Tornado notch their first win.

Butler (1-3) scored four in the top of the seventh to put the game away.

Autumn Pettinato also doubled for the Golden Tornado.

Guy DeLeonardis had a pair of hits, including a double, but Knoch lost for the first time this season, 9-3 to Plum.

Sean McGill also had a pair of hits and Isaac Love knocked in two for the Knights (4-1, 1-1).

Track and Field

Butler freshman Tyler Rekich won the long jump and triple jump as the Golden Tornado boys picked up wins over North Hills (129-21) and Fox Chapel (113-37).

In the girls' meet, Lucy Link won the long and triple jumps in Butler's wins over Fox Chapel (105-45) and North Hills (123-27).

Moniteau's James Parenti broke his own school record in the discus Wednesday with a heave of 169 feet, six inches to help the Warriors handle Union with a final score of 114-32.

Union's Quintin Weaver earned first place in the 1,600 and 800 runs.

Mayce Wonderling scored all eight goals for Freeport in an 8-6 win over Greensburg Salem.

Madison Ravotti had 18 saves for the Yellowjackets.

Boys Volleyball

Butler dropped to 2-2 overall and 1-2 in section play with a 3-1 loss to Shaler.

The Golden Tornado were defeated by scores of 25-23, 14-25, 10-25 and 11-25.
