Crawford County woman arrested on drug charges

Megan Edwards

An early morning traffic stop in Butler allegedly led to the discovery of about an ounce of methamphetamine and the arrest of a Crawford County woman.

Megan J. Edwards, 41, of Saegertown was arraigned on felony drug charges and placed in the Butler County Prison.

Butler police Lt. Brian Grooms was on patrol around 1:05 a.m. Wednesday, authorities said, when he noticed a car with an invalid license plate parked at a convenience store on West Jefferson Street.

He subsequently pulled over the car on South Chestnut Street near West Diamond Street. Edwards, a passenger, told Grooms she owned the vehicle.

The defendant, according to Grooms' affidavit, also acknowledged that she had drugs — specifically methamphetamine — in the car.

Behind the passenger seat inside a knock-off designer handbag, police allegedly found approximately an ounce of crystal meth and two meth pipes.

District Judge Wayne Seibel later arraigned Edwards on a felony charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

She also was cited for having an illegal license plate and driving a vehicle without insurance.
