Butler Township named Banner Community

Butler Township has been named a 2019 Banner Community by the Allegheny League of Municipalities and was honored at a March 8 ceremony.

The league's Banner Community program recognizes municipalities that show a commitment to professional development, prudent fiscal management, transparency, accountability and proactive communications to engage community stakeholders. A total of 65 municipalities and four municipal authorities were recognized in 2019, the program's seventh year.

“We were honored to have Butler Township again recognized as a 2019 Banner Community,” said Dave Zarnick, commissioner. “The program recognizes Butler Township's commitment to our residents and to providing services through best practices. We look forward to being a Banner Community for years to come.”

Assistant Manager Cheryl McNeill said she is hopeful that a similar program comes to Butler County to encourage local government excellence. Butler Township and Cranberry Township are the only two Butler County municipalities recognized by ALOM for this distinction.

“I'm delighted to see the Banner Communities program continue to grow. Local governments are the closest to the residents they serve, and I'm thrilled to see so many officials and local leaders continuing to strive toward effectiveness and efficiency for those residents,” said Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, speaking at the ceremony. “These officials often don't receive the recognition that they deserve for their hard work. We're proud to celebrate their accomplishments and thank them for their dedication to bettering the lives of our residents.”

The Allegheny League of Municipalities is a nonprofit organization created in the early 1960s to coordinate the needs of the area's local elected officials.
