Wednesday — A northern Butler County woman was charged with having drugs and other contraband stemming from a traffic stop last week on the 400 block of West Jefferson Street.

Police said they stopped Georgia L. Rietzel, 37, of Forestville around 5:15 p.m. March 6 for having an expired inspection sticker. An officer smelled marijuana coming from her car, but she denied having anything illegal in the vehicle, court documents said.

A search of the car, however, turned up two small baggies of suspected marijuana and a glass smoking bowl. She is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and driving a vehicle without valid inspection.

4:46 p.m. March 6 — Crystal L. Singer, 34, of Butler was allegedly found with a crack pipe and syringe after being picked up on an arrest warrant on West New Castle Street near Broad Street.

She is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

2:21 p.m. March 6 — Bryan Edinger, 50, of Mars was allegedly caught with a crack pipe after being arrested on a bench warrant on the 500 block of West New Castle Street. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on the warrant.

Police charged him with possession of drug paraphernalia.

[naviga:h3]Slippery Rock Police[/naviga:h3]

12:02 a.m. March 10 — Robert P. Lawhead, 55, of Butler was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence after police spotted his car on Franklin Street with expired registration.

Lawhead allegedly indicated impairment during field sobriety tests and he was taken to the state police barracks in Butler Township for a breath test, which showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.139 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.

In addition to DUI, he is charged with driving an unregistered vehicle.

[naviga:h3]Slippery Rock University Police[/naviga:h3]

1:35 p.m. Feb. 23 — Richard D. Giovanetti, 23, of Pittsburgh was arrested for driving under the influence after he allegedly ran a stop sign at Green and White Way and North Road in Slippery Rock Township.

Giovanetti failed field sobriety tests, and he was taken to the Slippery Rock University police station for a breath test that showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.172 percent, more than double the state’s 0.08 percent legal limit.

He is charged with DUI and a stop sign violation.

[naviga:h3]State Police, Butler[/naviga:h3]

March 9 — A key left in a car in Forward Township apparently made easy pickings for a thief. The unknown suspect took the blue 2010 Mazda 6 from the driveway of a home on Three Degree Road.

The theft occurred between 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Police said the car was unlocked.

11:58 a.m. March 8 — No injuries were reported in a three-vehicle wreck in Connoquenessing Township. The crash occurred on Route 68 at Isaac Lane.

Jacob G. Owczarzak, 19, of Butler was cited for following too closely to another vehicle. The other drivers were Colin E. Morris, 46, of Niles, Ohio, and Arthur J. Thompson, 48, of Mars.

8:07 a.m. March 7 — A vehicle driven by Danielle L. Day, 25, of Butler collided with another vehicle on Route 8 at Mercer Road in Center Township. No one was injured.

Police cited Day for disobeying traffic control devices. Christine L. Schuller, 59, of Butler was the other driver.

March 6 — Tod W. Horner, 51, of Slippery Rock was charged with being more than twice the state’s legal limit for alcohol last week in connection with a police call for a disabled vehicle in West Liberty.

Police said they found Horner in front of his sport utility vehicle, which eventually had to be towed. The defendant allegedly failed field sobriety testing, and a breath test indicated his blood-alcohol level was 0.188 percent.

In addition to driving under the influence, Horner is charged with disregarding traffic lanes.
