[naviga:h3]Soroptimist Club honors Horan[/naviga:h3]

U.S. District Court Judge Marilyn Horan is the recipient of the Soroptimist Club Ruby Award from the Soroptimist International of Butler County for her achievements, generosity and good works.

The award is part of the organization’s fundraising event “Live Your Dream” luncheon and basket raffle on April 6. Doors open at 10 a.m. with a lunch at noon at the Butler Country Club, 310 Country Club Road.

[naviga:h3]Vogeley scholarship applications ready[/naviga:h3]

Applications for the Theodore K. Vogeley Memorial Scholarship are available in the Butler Senior High School principal’s office. Applicants must be graduating seniors of Butler Senior High who have been accepted at an accredited college, university, or community college in a transfer program.

This is a four-year scholarship covering: tuition, fixed fees, room and board, and books. The deadline for applications is April 15.

[naviga:h3]Safe babysitter course offered[/naviga:h3]

The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department offers a Safe Sitter Babysitter’s Training class from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 23 at the Slippery Rock Park Building, 320 N. Main St., Slippery Rock.

The class, for 11- to 15-year-olds, emphasizes five areas: prevention, safety, responsibility, leadership and professionalism.

Registration in advance is required. Call the department at 724-284-5383.

[naviga:h3]Steelers take on Knoch faculty[/naviga:h3]

SAXONBURG — Knoch teachers will play a basketball game against members of the Pittsburgh Steelers at 8 p.m. Friday to raise money for the Knoch Middle School PTSO.

Doors open at 6 p.m. There will be concessions, halftime autographs, basketball auction, 50/50 drawing, a pre-game 3-point shot contest and DJ Shawn.

Tickets are available by emailing athena.pacek@gmail.com. Students can buy tickets at lunch Monday and Tuesday. Tickets also will be available at the door.
