Friday — A four-time convicted shoplifter was arraigned on charges that he stole merchandise totaling $13.19 in January from a discount store on North Main Street.

The defendant, James A. Wilson, 64, of Lyndora, is accused of taking frozen pizza, shrimp, soda, milk and body spray at the Dollar General.

Police identified Wilson as the shoplifter, according to court documents, after posting a photo of him pulled from surveillance footage, on the department’s Facebook page.

“A couple of calls came in to the police station giving some information on the (suspect),” a police affidavit said.

Due to his record, Wilson was arraigned on a felony count of retail theft. He was released on his own recognizance following arraignment.

March 7 — Corey C. Doerr, 27, who has no known address, was charged with vandalizing a sport utility vehicle last month on the 400 block of West North Street. He is accused of smashing the windshield around 5 p.m. Feb. 16.

The owner of the vehicle told police that she was visiting Doerr’s girlfriend at the woman’s apartment. The defendant and his girlfriend got into an argument, according to court documents.

Doerr was told to leave. The girlfriend and the victim also later left the apartment, fearing the defendant would return. When the women got to the victim’s SUV, they found the windshield damaged on the driver’s side.

A city-owned security camera that was “almost directly over” the vehicle, documents said, showed a man matching Doerr’s description walk over to the SUV and smash the windshield. The estimated repair cost was $1,451.80.

Doerr is charged with a second-degree misdemeanor count of criminal mischief.

10:45 p.m. Saturday — Timothy Green, 54, of Butler lost control of his pickup truck and struck the corner of the porch of a house on the 500 block of Kohler Avenue after traveling through a white picket fence.

The residents were at home, but no injuries were reported. Police said unspecified charges are pending further investigation.

4:15 p.m. March 5 — A vehicle driven by Justin M. Konieczny, 37, of Butler rear-ended another vehicle on Route 442 at the Route 8 ramp. Cheryl Sanderson, 58, of Renfrew was the other driver. No one was injured.

March 5 — Philip J. Romito, 61, of Clay Township was charged with making a shooting threat in January at the Walmart pharmacy at Butler Commons. No one was injured in the incident.

Police said they were called to the pharmacy around 12:30 p.m. Jan. 9 for a report of a customer who threatened employees. The pharmacist told police that the defendant was upset that he could not have his prescription refilled, according to court documents.

Romito is accused of saying that he was coming “to shoot and clear out the store,” documents said. He is charged with terroristic threats and disorderly conduct.

March 4 — Police charged Amanda A. Young, 23, of Butler in separate cases for bouncing two checks that she allegedly wrote in December.

One check was issued Dec. 17 for $224 to Siegel Title & Notary on Route 8 north and the other on Dec. 20 for $694.94 to Baglier Buick GMC on Route 8 south, according to court documents.

Both checks were allegedly written for an account that did not have sufficient funds. Each business subsequently sent Young a certified letter seeking payment. She signed for both letters, police said, but failed to respond.

She is charged with counts of bad checks.

[naviga:h3]Cranberry Twp Police[/naviga:h3]

March 6 — Jonathan Valenty, 29, of Gibsonia, a repeat shoplifter, was arrested on felony and other charges stemming from a December fraudulent return scheme at the Walmart on Route 19.

Police said an unidentified man took five items, valued at a combined $171.43, from the store around 4:50 p.m. Dec. 30. He left without paying for the items, surveillance video showed, and walked across the parking lot, entering a car, according to court documents.

About five minutes later, police said, Valenty got out of the car with the same allegedly stolen merchandise, which had been placed into plastic bags. The defendant went into the store and returned the items for a Walmart gift card valued at $171.43.

District Judge Lewis Stoughton arraigned Valenty, who has at least two prior shoplifting convictions, on felony charges of retail theft and conspiracy. He also is charged with receiving stolen property, theft by deception and access device fraud. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail following arraignment.

[naviga:h3]Evans City-Seven Fields Regional Police[/naviga:h3]

5:05 a.m. Sunday — Adam R. Caster, 36, of Pittsburgh was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence on Creek Castle Drive in Seven Fields. Police said they stopped him for having an expired registration.

Caster admitted that he had consumed three beers before driving, according to court documents. He failed field sobriety tests and was taken to UPMC Passavant in Cranberry Township for a blood test.

Toxicology showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.160 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.

District Judge Lewis Stoughton arraigned Caster on charges of driving under the influence and driving an unregistered vehicle. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail.

[naviga:h3]Slippery Rock University Police[/naviga:h3]

8:52 p.m. Feb. 81 — Ian J. Stearns, 18, of Sarver was allegedly caught with marijuana and other drug contraband after a traffic stop on Campus Drive near East Gym in Slippery Rock. Police said they pulled him over for having a faulty headlight.

He is charged with two counts of possession of a small amount of marijuana and four counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

4 p.m. March 5 — Rachel M. Roman, 30, of Butler was allegedly caught with a crack pipe during a booking search at the Butler County Prison. She is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

[naviga:h3]Butler County Drug Task Force[/naviga:h3]

2:57 p.m. Sunday — Nosakhere Williams, 22, of Pittsburgh was arrested for felony drug possession following a traffic stop in Adams Township. Task force officers were investigating alleged narcotics trafficking in the county, according to court documents, when Adams Township police stopped Williams for an equipment violation.

A search of his car trunk, a task force officer said, turned up a “large plastic bag containing marijuana that appeared packaged for sale.”

Officers also found four THC oil cartridges, a large glass jar with marijuana residue and a marijuana grinder in the center console.

District Judge Lewis Stoughton arraigned Williams on a felony charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail following arraignment.

[naviga:h3]State Police, Butler[/naviga:h3]

Monday — Police charged two men in connection with a traffic stop last month in Oakland Township that allegedly turned up suspected marijuana and other drug contraband in their vehicle.

The vehicle, driven by John M. Kowalewski Jr., 27, of Karns City was stopped around 1 p.m. Feb. 28 on North Oakland Drive at Route 68 for having a suspended registration.

Kowalewski is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana, driving with a suspended license, driving without a license, driving with suspended registration, driving a vehicle without insurance and failing to notify authorities of a change of address.

Also charged is Adam J. Rodgers, 18, of Chicora for possession of drug paraphernalia.

11:47 a.m. March 6 — Scott Rowe, 63, was arrested after he allegedly assaulted a woman, grabbing her by the throat and twisting her arm, during an altercation at his Old Pap home in Winfield Township.

Police said Rowe also threatened to burn down the victim’s home. He left his home following the incident.

District Judge Lewis Stoughton arraigned the defendant on charges of terroristic threats, simple assault and harassment. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail following arraignment.

7:23 p.m. March 3 — A car driven by Asher L. Johnson, 19, of Fenelton struck a tree along Chicora Fenelton Road just north of Rattigan Road in Donegal Township. No one was hurt.

Police cited Johnson for driving too fast for conditions, driving without a license and failing to immediately notify police of an accident.

5:18 p.m. March 3 — Lew E. Crider, 55, of Butler lost control of his car and slid into a utility pole along Route 38 in Cherry Valley. No injuries were reported, but the car had to be towed.

Police cited Crider for driving too fast for conditions and driving an unregistered vehicle.

Feb. 11 — Police charged Eric L. Timbers, 42, of Pittsburgh with drugged driving in connection with a January speeding stop on Interstate 79 in Worth Township. He was allegedly clocked traveling 87 mph in a 70 mph zone around 8 p.m. Jan. 15.

Timbers admitted that he had smoked marijuana earlier that day, according to court documents, and he told police he had a small bag of marijuana in the vehicle.

Troopers recovered the bag that they said contained 8.7 grams of suspected marijuana.

The defendant showed impairment during field sobriety testing, police said, and he was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. Toxicology results allegedly confirmed he had marijuana in his system.

Timbers is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of a small amount of marijuana, driving without a license, speeding and careless driving.
