Spanier's request for appeal denied

HARRISBURG — Penn State’s president when the Jerry Sandusky child molestation scandal erupted may soon be in jail after Pennsylvania’s highest court declined Thursday to hear the appeal of his child endangerment conviction.

The state Supreme Court ruled it will not take up Graham Spanier’s appeal of the conviction related to Spanier’s handling of a 2001 complaint about Sandusky showering with a boy in the football team locker room.

Spanier, 70, had argued the trial judge and a lower appeals court wrongly relied on a statute of limitations law. He has been out on bail and has not begun serving a sentence of two months in jail and two months’ house arrest.
