Storm causes road delays

The winter storm is causing road hazards in Butler County.

Slippery roads are creating traffic messes and hazards across Butler County.

Route 228 west appears to be one of the most troublesome roads as tractor-trailers and other vehicles are getting stuck in the snow.

Middlesex Township police twice after day break had to shut down the intersection at Route 228 west and Route 8.

“Right now we have 10 tractor-trailers and eight cars stuck,” Patrolman Bryan Costanzo said about 8:20 a.m. “The tractor-trailers are stopped in the middle of the road. They're not going anywhere.”

Police at least for now have reopened traffic at the intersection to one lane in each direction.

Officials at the PennDOT maintenance office said all plows are out and trying to get roads plowed and treated.

North Main Street hill in Butler was just closed at 9:50 a.m. and PennDOT has been called.
