Winter weather advisory calls for it all

If you like winter weather, this could be the day for you. Snow, ice, sleet, freezing rain — or all of those — is in the offing today.

A winter weather advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. for Butler County and much of Western Pennsylvania, according to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh.

The advisory, which starts at 7 a.m., forecasts mixed precipitation with snow accumulations of between 1 to 3 inches and ice accumulations of up to one-tenth of an inch.

As such, there were PennDOT plow sightings by 6 a.m. in preparation for what might come.

Motorists are warned to expect slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact both morning and evening commutes.

Rain is predicted tonight with the low around 34 degrees and winds of 7 to 13 mph that could gust as high as 23 mph. The chance of precipitation is 90 percent.

The outlook for Thursday is pretty pedestrian with mostly cloudy skies, a high near 41 and winds of 10 mph or so.
