Missing woman found 'safe and sound' in New Castle

Katie Stoner, 27, of New Castle, who was reported missing Thursday has been found.

A woman reported missing since last week has been found “safe and sound,” according to Kittanning police.

Authorities said Katie Stoner, 27, of New Castle, who was reported missing Thursday, had been living at a home in New Castle.

Police said foul play is not suspected and the case is closed.

Kittanning police posted the news on its Facebook page. “Thank you everyone for your help. Great job to all,” the post added.

No other details were announced and borough police were not immediately available for comment this morning.

New Castle police, according to its Facebook page, said department officers “conducted numerous interviews/interrogations and traffic stops attempting to locate Stoner.”

During its investigation, police in New Castle made contact with the woman, who voluntarily came to the station for an interview.

“It was determined Stoner was unharmed and she was residing at a residence in the City of New Castle,” the department's post said.

Police said the woman's family and Kittanning police were notified of their findings.

It was not clear when Stoner was found and a telephone call to New Castle police was not immediately returned.

Kittanning police, while still investigating Stoner's disappearance, on Monday identified an ex-boyfriend as a “person of interest” in the case. Information about the man and his photos that were posted on the department's Facebook have been deleted.
