Butler County residents should plan for winter weather during the morning commute on Wednesday, a National Weather Service forecaster said.

Between 6 a.m. And 8 a.m., snow will begin to fall and will turn into a wintry mix of sleet and ice around noon, forecaster Shannon Hefferan said. However, Butler County will not be hit as hard as areas south of Pittsburgh.

A total of two to three inches is expected.

“North of the city might be OK, south of the city will be very sketchy and dicey during the morning commute,” Hefferan said. “There could be heavy rounds of snow, possibly an inch an hour (south of Pittsburgh). Butler will not be as bad as, say, Washington or Greene County areas.”

Hefferan said there will be less than 1/10 of an inch of ice, and that the wintry mix will change to rain by mid- to late-afternoon.

The high for Wednesday is 37 degrees, while the low is 23 degrees.
