[naviga:h3]SV senior is Coke Scholarship finalist [/naviga:h3]

JACKSON TWP — A Seneca Valley senior was named a regional finalist for the 2019 class of the CocaCola Scholars Program.

Ben Hess is moving to the next round of the selection process to become a Coca-Cola Scholar and receive a $20,000 college scholarship.

Previously among 1,896 semifinalists who were selected from more than 95,000 initial applicants, Ben is now one of 251 students who have moved to the final selection phase, regional interviews.

After these interviews are conducted in mid-February, 150 of the regional finalists will be designated as Coca-Cola Scholars in March and will each receive a $20,000 scholarship to be used at the student's college of choice.

Collectively, the Coca Cola Scholars Foundation will award $3.1 million in scholarships.

With the addition of the 2019 class, the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation will have provided more than 6,150 Coke scholars nationwide with more than $69 million in scholarships over 31 years.

[naviga:h3]South Butler board hires IT director[/naviga:h3]

JEFFERSON TWP — The South Butler School Board has hired Roger Myers as director of technology.

Myers occupied the same position for the past 12 years in the Penn Hills School District.

He holds an associate degree in specialized business from ICM School of Business and has held positions as computer operator, manager and programmer/systems consultant.

At Penn Hills, Myers helped establish standards for classroom technology, migrated multiple student and financial systems, led the technology team during two school construction projects and supported numerous curriculum endeavors.

Myers is expected to start work at South Butler in mid-March.

[naviga:h3]YMCA's 25th Bowl for Kids is March 3[/naviga:h3]

The 25th annual YMCA Bowl for Kids Sake will be held March 3 at the Butler Family Bowlaway Fun Center, Fairground Hill Road.

Sponsored by the Butler YMCA, the fundraising event benefits such Y programs as Reach & Rise youth mentoring, the summer food program and water safety.

Last year the event raised more than $40,000.

This year's theme, “Rolling out the Red Carpet”, encourages participants to name their team or dress as their favorite Hollywood star or movie character.

“This event is one of our largest fundraisers for our Reach & Rise youth mentoring program,” said Rachel Pazzaglia Campbell, the Y's clinical director of youth services. “Reach & Rise is designed to build a better future for youth by helping them reach their full potential through the support of caring adults.”
