Police interviewing suspect in overnight shooting

Butler police say they are currently interviewing a suspect in the overnight shooting of a house on the 800 block of West Penn Street.

Three adults and two young children were in the two-story home but no one was hurt. The house was hit multiple times shortly after 11:15 p.m. Sunday.

Officers recovered five .40-caliber bullet casings from the outside the house near Mercer Street. All of the casings were in the same vicinity.

One slug was recovered on the floor in the house. Investigators said they believe the other slugs remain lodged and hidden in the walls.

Police would not identify the suspect, who voluntarily came to the station for an interview about 3:30 p.m. They did not immediately have a motive.

Investigators believe the shooter walked to the house and acted alone. Police would not say if an arrest is imminent.

A 30-year-old woman and her two children, ages 7 and less than 1 year old, live at the rental home. They were there along with the woman's 34-year-old boyfriend and her 63-year-old father at the time of the shooting

All three adults who were in the house at the time of the shooting are cooperating, police said.
