Meghan Markle, George Clooney

LOS ANGELES — George Clooney is frustrated by the way the media is treating Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, comparing it to how the media covered Princess Diana.

Clooney told reporters Meghan is “a woman who is seven months pregnant and she has been pursued and vilified and chased in the same way that Diana was and it's history repeating itself.”

Diana died in a car crash while being pursued by paparazzi in 1997.

Clooney and his wife attended the former Meghan Markle's wedding to Diana's son, Prince Harry, last year.

Clooney made the comments at the Television Critics Association conference in Pasadena, Calif. He is promoting his upcoming Hulu series “Catch-22.”

NEW YORK — In her seventh Oscar nomination, Glenn Close is poised to win her first Academy Award. But if she doesn't, the 71-year-old actress says not to cry for her.

Close tells The Associated Press she doesn't want “a pity Oscar.” If she loses, Close says she's decided to look at the camera and say: “I'm OK.”

Close has emerged as the best-actress favorite after wins at the Golden Globes and the Screen Actors Guild Awards. But the category is competitive, with Lady Gaga and Olivia Colman also in the mix.

Close has six times before been nominated but never won.
