BUTLER TWP — One thing Connor Bachman knows about is scoring goals.

The Butler senior lacrosse long-stick midfielder plans on doing so for a long time to come, signing a letter of intent Monday to continue his academic and lacrosse career at Eastern University in Philadelphia.

He also considered Baldwin Wallace, Seton Hill, Shenandoah and Mary Washington before opting for Eastern.

“I love the competitive level they've been at,” Bachman said of the Division III Eastern program. “And they've got an excellent program in environmental science, which I'm planning to major in.”

Eastern is 43-1 in conference play, 94-37 overall since 2012. The Eagles are 61-5 in Freedom Mid-Atlantic Conference play since the 2010 season.

Eastern has not had a losing season since 2009.

“Contributing to a national championship team is something I really want to do,” Bachman said. “I believe I can play there as a freshman.

“I expect to play right away. That has to be the mentality.”

Bachman scored 56 goals for the Golden Tornado last season. He will be a fourth-year starter this spring and has scored roughly 120 goals in his high school career.

His older brother, Cody, is an assistant coach under Trevor Monteleone at Butler. Cody Bachman holds the Tornado record of 69 goals in a season.

“Connor is a strong, physical player,” Coach Bachman said of his brother. “He's a competitor and a leader on the field.

“He refuses to be denied. He competes all the time.”

Bachman admitted that a lot of opponents don't match his physicality on the field.

Also a Butler hockeyplayer, he brings that mentality to the lacrosse field.

“I enjoy the physicality of sports,” Bachman said. “I guess that's why I favor hockey and lacrosse.

“I'm a hard-nosed player who loves the contact. I know I can get better with my stick skills and I'm hitting the weight room to get stronger.”

Before heading off to Eastern, Bachman said there's business to take care of during his senior season at Butler.

“We've been to the playoffs the past two years, but got knocked out in the first round,” he said. “My goals here are team goals. I want us to get at least into the second or third round this year, make some progress.”

His brother has no worries about Connor continuing to progress as a player on his own.

“We have a net in the backyard at home and he's out there practicing his shooting every day,” the coach said.
