Codispot sets Butler pole vault record

Senior hits 15 feet, 1 inch; gets 100th wrestling win next day at Sharon Duals

Butler senior Jack Codispot won the pole vault event at the Tri-State Track Coaches Association indoor meet Friday night at Ediboro University.

He broke a 21-year-old Golden Tornado record in the process.

Codispot vaulted 15 feet, 1 inch, breaking the previous mark of 15 feet set by Jared Farabee in 1998. Earlier in the week, Codispot secured his 100th career wrestling win the following day.

Butler had two other first-place finishes in the indoor meet. Alexia Mechling won the girls high jump at 5 feet, 4 inches. The Tornado's 4x200 meter boys relay team of Isaiah Seybert, Guinness Brown, Cade Gratzmiller and Ryan Marcella won that event in 1:33.35.

Liz Simms took fourth in the 800 meters, but hit the PA State Indoor Championship Meet qualifying time of 2:20.65.

In other action:

Slippery Rock competed in an indoor meet at Kent State. Sean Northcott set a school record in the shot put at 45 feet, 3 inches.

Alyssa Dalmagro placed second in the shot put at 35-4. Gordon Baker was fourth in the high jump at 5-6, Pat Shea fifth in the long jump at 19-1. Placing seventh were Sierra Nagy in the 60-meter hurdles, Etyan Folmer in the triple jump and Northcott in the shot put.

Boys Basketball

Garrett Schaffhauser scored 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds as Freeport defeated South Park, 78-65, on the road Saturday.

Vincent Clark added 18 points while Jalen Brown had 12 points and six assists, Aiden Skradski 12 points and eight assists for the Yellowjackets.

Quaker Valley 68, Knoch 53 — The Knights had their 11-game winning streak snapped as Ryan Stowers scored 27 points for Quaker Valley.

Jared Schrecengost scored 16 points for Knoch with Scott Fraser adding 14. Knoch's win streak was the program's longest in 16 years.

Girls Basketball

Kylee Lewandowski scored 18 points and Dani Short had 11 points and eight rebounds as North Catholic defeated Upper St. Clair, 70-44.

Wrestling

Butler won four of its five dual matches at Saturday's Sharon Duels, improving to 16-4 on the season.

The Golden Tornado dropped a 42-27 decision to Peters Township, then defeated Cameron County 73-0, Fox Chapel 60-12, Elizabeth Forward 47-24 and Indiana 33-33 (tiebreaker).

Nick Schaukowitsch at 106 pounds and Nate McMaster at 132-138 both went 5-0. Domenic Vivirito at 126, Steven Green at 145, Jack Codispot at 160, Jake Pomykata at 195 and Caleb Hartung at 220 all went 4-1.

Codispot now has 102 wins in his career.
