Bacteria found in St. Luke school water

St. Luke's Lutheran School in Cabot is open and students are being providing bottled water and hand sanitizer until its water system is clear of a recently detected bacteria.

CABOT — St. Luke Lutheran School in Cabot is providing bottled water and hand sanitizer to students and staff until its water system is clear of a recently detected bacteria.

School officials issued a statement about the water late Wednesday night, but declined to discuss the matter.

The statement from the school said, “St. Luke Lutheran School Cabot, PA will remain open on Thursday, January 24, 2019. As previously communicated with our school families, recent water testing showed the presence of a common bacteria. The water is tested monthly per Pennsylvania state law.

“We were advised by state officials that the school could remain open using safety precautions. These precautions include providing bottled drinking water and using hand sanitizer. The kitchen staff is taking appropriate safety measures as well.

“The safety and well being of our students and staff are a top priority at St. Luke Lutheran School. Out of an abundance of caution, we will continue with these recommendations until the test results are clear.”

According to the school's website, the school has students from preschool to eighth grade and the principal is Kelly Carney .
