Woman to stay on house arrest

A judge on Thursday denied a Butler woman's request that she be taken off house arrest as part of her bond in an ongoing case.

Kasey R. Dischman, 32, faces charges of endangering the welfare of a child, corruption of a minor and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Butler County's District Attorney's office attempted to prosecute her with a felony charge, but it was dropped after local and state courts found that the charge violated a state law that protects pregnant women. As part of her bond in the case, a Butler judge put her on house arrest until the case is resolved.

Appearing in court on Thursday, Dischman told Judge William Shaffer that she works regularly at a restaurant and has abided the law.

“I'm not a flight risk. I'm not going anywhere,” Dischman said. “I plan to be here for my children. I'm planning to get them back.”

Assistant District Attorney Laura Pitchford acknowledged Dischman's situation.

“I know she struggled with addiction,” Pitchford said, but noted the “significant charges” of her past. “I think the bond is appropriate.”

Shaffer then denied Dischman's motion. Through house arrest, the government can dictate Dischman's schedule by requiring her to stay in her residence when she is not at work.
