Slippery Rock High grad lands job at Facebook

David Jacobs, formerly of Slippery Rock, stands by the sign of his new employer, Facebook, headquartered in San Francisco.

A Slippery Rock High School graduate took a job with billion-dollar company.

David Jacobs, Slippery Rock High School Class of 2005, moved to the West Coast after finishing college in 2009 at Point Park University in Pittsburgh with a degree in sports art and entertainment management.

Jacobs said after the move he discovered a passion for marketing and worked for a few companies in the San Francisco Bay Area, before he landed his latest gig with Facebook about four months ago.

“I work in their consumer marketing division,” Jacobs said.

Jacobs said one of his responsibilities is working on the marketing campaigns for messenger, which includes Facebook's latest spinoff app, Messenger Kids.

“We're constantly thinking of new apps or new ways to constantly connect with youth or kids,” Jacobs said. Jacobs said he has been impressed with his latest employer.

“It's great culture with insanely smart people,” he said. “Everybody works hard to solve problems.”

Jacobs said his family has been very excited and supportive. He said they can relate more with Facebook than some of the other companies he's worked with.

“They didn't always use my products so they were excited to use what I'm working on directly every day,” he said.

Jacobs said he also has many friends in his hometown, which he described as a tight-knit community. He said he looks forward to sharing more about his new company during his routine visits home.

“I always look back at it fondly,” Jacobs said. “It was a great time and a great place to grow up.”
