8:15 p.m. Wednesday — Jarrett M. Hoover, 38, was arrested on charges he choked and shoved his girlfriend during a domestic dispute at their apartment on Greenview Drive.

A neighbor called police after she heard the victim calling for help, according to court documents.

The victim told police that Hoover “choked her to the point where she could not (breathe),” documents said. She said he also pushed her.

Police said they noticed redness around the woman’s neck and chest and a small bruise on the right side of her neck.

District Judge Sue Haggerty arraigned Hoover on a felony charge of strangulation and a misdemeanor charge of simple assault. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail following arraignment.

Wednesday — Tera L. Callihan, 30, of Chicora was charged in connection with a fraudulent return last week at a store at the Butler Crossing shopping plaza.

Police said Callihan on Jan. 3 at Sally Beauty took five items totaling $133.61 in value and made a direct return of the merchandise. She also was allegedly caught with a pill for which she did not have a prescription, and syringes.

She is charged with theft by deception, false identification to law enforcement authorities, and possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

Jan. 2 — Amanda Schmiedlin, 35, of Middlesex Township was charged with drugged driving stemming from a two-vehicle crash last month on the 1000 block of Route 8.

Police said Schmiedlin appeared confused and disoriented when they arrived about 9:30 a.m. She admitted that she is taking prescription medication, according to court documents.

She failed field sobriety tests and was taken to UPMC Passavant in Cranberry Township for a blood test. Toxicology results showed she had amphetamine and marijuana in her system, documents said.

Schmiedlin is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance and careless driving.

Jan. 2 — Mason A. Pritchard, 21, of Slippery Rock was charged with drunken driving stemming from a traffic stop last month in Slippery Rock. Police said they stopped him about 9:30 p.m. Dec. 10 for a pair of traffic violations on Franklin Street near Normal Avenue.

Pritchard was arrested after failing field sobriety tests, according to court documents. He was taken to the Slippery Rock University police station for a breath test that showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.086 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.

In addition to driving under the influence, he is charged with disregarding traffic lanes and driving at unsafe speed.

Jan. 2 — An Allegheny County woman was charged with DUI in connection with a traffic stop near Interstate 79 in Muddy Creek Township. Police stopped Daelyn N. Wolfe, 32, of Warrendale about 6:50 p.m. Dec. 7 after they saw her car cross the fog line and center line.

Wolfe failed field sobriety tests and was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test, which she refused, court documents said.

She is charged with DUI, disregarding traffic lanes, careless driving and not wearing a seat belt.

Jan. 2 — Police charged a man and woman, both of Clearfield Township, with having drug contraband at a November DUI checkpoint in Buffalo Township.

The defendants — Robert A. Charles, 37, of Mineral Springs and Shannan M. Audette, 32, of DuBois — were passengers in a vehicle that was stopped about 2 a.m. Nov. 21 on Route 28 at exit 17.

Charles was found with two crack pipes and Audette had one crack pipe, according to court documents. They are both charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and disorderly conduct.
