Butler Township preparing for garbage, recycling collection

Butler Township residents will begin receiving their carts for disposing of garbage and recyclables from the Waste Management on Monday.

Waste Management, which the township commissioners recently hired, will begin collection on Jan. 2.

Each cart has a 90-gallon capacity and will come with a flyer inside or attached containing information on collection and a toll-free number residents can call with questions, said Thomas Knights, township manager.

The collection schedule will be posted on the township website as soon as the company provides it, he added. The flyer also will contain information on disposal of electronics and hazardous household materials. Knights said those items will be collected at no additional cost to residents, but they must follow the instructions.

He said the company uses trucks with arms that reach out to pick up its carts and dumps the contents into the trucks.
