Suspect escapes police on Bessemer Avenue

A suspect slipped through a heavy police presence on Bessemer Avenue Monday morning. The incident and an earlier one on Hansen Avenue resulted in Butler’s senior high, intermediate high and Vo-Tech buildings being placed on a lock-down that has now been lifted.

Police were looking for Gage Carrozzi at 415 Bessemer Ave., but he was not found in the duplex apartment. In the early part of the incident, two children ages 1 and 4 were taken from the duplex and delivered to the arms of their grandmother.

But police did not find Carrozzi.

It is not known if the incident on Bessemer Avenue was related to a reported burglary with gunshots fired at a Hansen Avenue apartment in Butler Township that one police source referred to as an attempted homicide. That call came in at 8:10 a.m. and a woman told authorities that she was trapped in the apartment.

Neighbors said they saw a man run down the steps from an apartment building on the 500 block of Hansen Avenue.

No other information was immediately available. Stay with the Butler Eagle for more on this developing story.
