Harold Lee Cross

Harold Lee Cross, 87, of Butler passed away Wednesday morning at the VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler.

Born April 14, 1931, in Ellwood City, he was the son of the late Samuel Clarence and Sara Anna Conway Cross.

He was a member of First English Lutheran Church in Butler, and the former Connoquenessing Odd Fellows Lodge 278.

Harold retired from the maintenance department at Slippery Rock University and had first worked in maintenance at Slippery Rock High School. He was also a dairy farmer.

His hobbies were collecting four leaf clovers, collecting arrowheads and chip carving. He was a member of the National Wood Carvers Association.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma Jean Graff Cross, whom he married June 9, 1953; his three daughters, Judy (Dr. James) Byers of Butler, Linda (James) Hagar of Colorado and Janet (James) Weaver of Jackson Center; his grandchildren, Beth (Dustin) Hartle of Pittsburgh, Brian (Kaylie) Walters of Meridian and J.J. Byers of Pittsburgh; his great-grandchildren, Nathan Hartle and Bradly Hartle; his brother, Donald (Audrey) Cross of Huntingdon, Pa.; and his nephew, Robert (Mary Jo) Cross of Danville, Pa.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Norma Jean Cross.

CROSS — Private services for Harold Lee Cross, who died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2018, were held Friday morning at Edward L. Raisley Funeral Home by the family with his pastor, the Rev. Kimberly van Driel of First English Lutheran Church, officiating.Interment followed in Greenlawn Burial Estates in Butler.Arrangements have been entrusted to the Edward L.
