Butler Police car collides with another vehicle

A Butler police officer responding to a vehicle pursuit Friday afternoon collided with another vehicle at Main and Brady streets, city police said.

Police Sgt. Jeremy Walters later went to Butler Memorial Hospital after complaining of pain following the crash about 4:50 p.m.

The other driver, Dolores Anderson, 77, of Butler, refused medical treatment at the scene.

Police said the incident began when Butler Township police reportedly were pursuing a stolen vehicle on Route 422 east from the Lyndora exit.

The vehicle, a Honda CR-V, was stolen from the city's Institute Hill neighborhood earlier in the week, Butler police said.

Walters activated his emergency lights and siren, police said, and was traveling to North Main Street to intercept the suspect vehicle, in case the driver headed back into the city.

Walters was northbound on Main Street and was going through the intersection, police said, when his cruiser was T-boned by Anderson's Kia Soul that was traveling east on West Brady Street.

Witnesses said Anderson had the green light.

The Kia struck the driver's side of the cruiser, police said. All the air bags of both vehicles deployed. Both vehicles sustained moderate to severe damage and had to be towed.
