Ewing leads the Knights

Pours in 22 in Knoch victory

Nevaeh Ewing poured in 22 points — 10 in a huge first quarter — as the Knoch girls basketball team build a huge early lead and hung on for a 51-41 road win over Kiski Monday night.

The Knights (2-1), who led 37-18 after three quarters, also got seven points each from Skye Burkett and Lauren Chihonski.

Seneca Valley 67, New Castle 41 — Maddie Karchut scored 20 points as the Raiders jumped out to a 21-5 lead after one quarter and cruised.

McKenna Gross added 16 points and Haley Cramer eight for Seneca Valley (3-0).

Tai Johnson and Ellie Coffield each added 10 for Mars (3-0), which pulled away with a 25-1 advantage in the fourth quarter.

Wrestling

Butler placed eight wrestlers and finished fourth at the 27-team Chartiers-Houston Tournament over the weekend.

Nick Schaukowitsch at 106 pounds was the top placed for the Golden Tornado, reaching the final before placing second.

Jack Codispot was third at 170 pounds and Cooper Baxter fourth at 120 pounds for Butler.

The Golden Tornado had three fifth-place finishers in Colton Spaun (132), Nate McMaster (138), Steven Green (145).

Shawndell Zapata (220) rounded out the Butler wrestlers with a sixth-place finish.

Armstrong won the tournament with 165 points. Peters Township (161.5) was second and Conneaut (157) third, followed by Butler (146.5).

The Golden Tornado will begin the section schedule Wednesday at Pine-Richland.
