Butler girls win tourney

Members of the Butler girls basketball team show off their trophy after winning the Armstrong Tip-Off Tournament title Saturday.
Mars basketball teams also win twice over weekend

Julia Gibson scored 11 points and Emma Monteleone 10 as the Butler girls basketball team won the Armstrong Tip-Off Tournament with a 51-45 victory over the host River Hawks Saturday.

Jordan Kauffman contributed eight points for the Golden Tornado (2-0), who trailed 33-30 after three quarters.

Butler outscored Armstrong 21-10 in the final eight minutes. L.Bowser scored 22 points for Armstrong.

Wrestling

Butler placed fourth at the Chartiers Houston Invitational over the weekend.

Nick Schaukowitz placed second for the Golden Tornado at 106 pounds. Jack Codispot took third at 160, Cooper Baxter fourth at 170.

Clayton Dressler was fifth at 120, as were Colton Spohn at 132, Nate McMaster at 138 and Steven Green at 145. Shawndell Zapata was sixth at 220.

North Catholic's Matt Ferraro was fourth at 145.

In other action:

Numerous Mars and Knoch wrestlers placed at the Hickory Invitational.

For the Planets, Noah Hunkele took second at 103 pounds, as did Jake Richardson at 160. Christian Scheller was fourth at 132, Anthony Maiure fifth at 126, Sean McElhinney fifth at 170.

For the Knights, fifth-place finishers were Kam Grassi at 138, Brendan Hinchberger at 160 and Eli Reese at 285. Guy DeLeonardis was sixth at 152, Hunter Oskin seventh at 132.

Seneca Valley competed in the prestigious Walsh Ironman Tournament in Ohio. Alejandro Herrera took second at 113 pounds.
