A Butler man who was arrested after a multiday search by police after being accused of strangling a girl is now accused of sexually assaulting the 11-year-old, according to court documents

Danny T. Nichols was arraigned on Dec. 5 for a felony charge of strangulation and a misdemeanor charge of simple assault.

Police had been looking for Nichols since about 6 p.m. Dec. 2 when they were called to his house on Standard Avenue for a report that he was assaulting an 11-year-old girl.

The new case against Nichols has 23 charges. Most of them are for rape and aggravated indecent assault against a minor. The offense date for these new charges is also Dec. 2, which is when police were first called to Nichols' house.
