Butler Co. receives $20 million for 228 work

Butler County will receive a $20 million federal BUILD grant that was made possibly by the $5 vehicle registration increase signed off by the commissioners in July.

Announced on Thursday afternoon by both Sen. Pat Toomey and Rep. Mike Kelly, Butler County will be receiving $20 million of the $25 million that the commissions requested for as part of the Better Utilizing Investment to Leverage Development (BUILD) grant.

The grant was given by the Department of Transportation, and according to previous reporting will be used on Route 228 projects including straightening Ball's Bend and widening the entire road between Route 8 and Quality Gardens near the Adams/Middlesex border.

The county commissioners will be formally announcing the grant at 4 p.m. Thursday during a
