CABOT UNITED METHODIST

Cabot United Methodist Church, 707 Winfield Road, Cabot, begins its Upward Program for basketball and cheerleaders for the 2019 season in January. There is one remaining evaluation date: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. Practices will begin the week of Jan. 7, and games will begin Jan. 26.

COVENANT PRESBYTERIAN

Pastor John Silbert of Covenant Presbyterian Church, 230 E. Jefferson St., will lead the Seekers adult Bible school classes during Sundays in Advent.

The second Advent candle, the candle of peace, will be lit during the 11 a.m. Sunday worship service.

The Uptown Girls from Downtown Sound, voice students in grades 7 through 12, will sing at the 11 a.m. Sunday worship service.

FAITH UNITED PRESBYTERIAN

Faith United Presbyterian Church, 1329 N. Main Ext., will light the Advent candle during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service, and Brooke and Rylee Yost will read Advent devotions. Installation of the recently elected elders and deacons will take place during the service. The deacons’ fellowship luncheon will follow the worship service.

The AA group meets at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Weight Watchers meets at 10 a.m. Wednesday, 6 p.m. Dec. 13 and 8:30 a.m. Dec. 15.

FIRST BAPTIST

First Baptist Church, 221 W. New Castle St., has 9:45 a.m. Sunday school classes and an 11 a.m. worship service Sunday. The children’s Christmas program will be at 6 p.m. Sunday.

FIRST ENGLISH LUTHERAN

First English Lutheran Church, 241 N. Main St., has Holy Communion by intinction at the 10 a.m. Second Sunday of Advent worship service.

Christmas cards to be sent to shut-ins are in the social room. Members are encouraged to sign the cards.

To order poinsettias for Christmas, sign the sheet posted in the social room.

To participate in the kids’ backpack program, place single-serving size nonperishable items in the bins located in the front office.

GRACE @ CALVARY LUTHERAN

Grace @ Calvary Lutheran Church, 123 E. Diamond St., has Ladies’ Night Out at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Rock Ann Haven, 141 Greenwood Drive. All ladies of all ages are invited.

The GLOW committee has a planning meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Grace’s Closet, a free clothing bank, is open to the public from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. No proof of income is required. Each family may fill one large bag.

The next GLOW at Grace will follow the worship service until 1:30 p.m. Sunday. All young people ages 5-12 are welcome. Lunch is provided. (Children younger than 5 are welcome with an adult).

The property committee meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday, followed by the finance committee at 6:30 p.m. and the worship and music committee at 7 p.m.

The Midweek Advent Soup & Study will begin Wednesday with dinner served at 6 p.m., and the study beginning at 6:30 p.m.

GRACEWAY

GraceWay meets at the Center Township Elementary School on Mercer Road.

MaryAnn Mahan and Ruth Ferko will provide the music at the 10 a.m. Sunday worship service celebrating the second Sunday of Advent with the emphasis on Jesus and with Jim and Tammie Hazlett lighting the Advent candle.

HILL UNITED PRESBYTERIAN

Hill United Presbyterian Church, 501 Second St., lights the candle of love during the Sunday worship service.

The bell choir will ring, and the Rev. Leigh Benish will deliver the message.

The Hill Quilters meet at 9 a.m. Friday.

Mars United Presbyterian Church, 232 Crowe Ave., Mars, has its living Nativity at 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday. All are welcome.

During the Advent season, the church will celebrate the lighting of the Peace candle during both Sunday worship services.

The CE/MO committee and the B&G committee will meet at 12:15 p.m. Sunday.

The final GriefShare meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the Board Room.

MERIDIAN PRESBYTERIAN

Meridian Presbyterian Church, 4150 Highland Ave., has its annual Christmas Dinner at 5:45 p.m. Sunday at the church. The main dish is provided; take a dish to share. Reservations are appreciated.

OLD UNION PRESBYTERIAN

The youth group of Old Union Presbyterian Church, 200 Union Church Road, Mars, will volunteer at the Evans City Food Cupboard on Dec. 15 and then go ice skating at North Park. Meet at the church at 9:45 a.m. or at St. Peter’s Church in Evans City at 10 a.m.

Sunday is the last day to drop up new, unwrapped gifts for the Lighthouse Christmas Shoppe.

The deadline to place an order for poinsettias to decorate the sanctuary on Christmas Eve is Dec. 16.

Christmas caroling for shut-ins is set for 5:30 p.m. Dec. 15.

ORCHARD HILL BUTLER COUNTY

Orchard Hill Butler County worships at 10:30 a.m. Sundays at 107 Staley Ave.

SAINT ANDREWS UNITED PRESBYTERIAN

Saint Andrews United Presbyterian Church, 201 E. Jefferson St., has its Christmas cookie walk from 9 a.m. until supplies run out Saturday. For the next two Sundays, Saint Andrews will collect funds to help Emily Thomas Glaser and her family. To help, send a check made out to Saint Andrews.

To place a poinsettia in the sanctuary on Christmas Eve, complete an order form and return it with payment of $8.50 each to the church office by Wednesday.

SPRINGDALE LUTHERAN

Springdale Lutheran Church, 1061 Mahood Road, West Sunbury, welcomes the Rev. Dennis Hindman as guest pastor Sunday.

Holy Communion will be offered at the 11 a.m. Sunday service.

The Church Council meets at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Christmas caroling will be Saturday. All carolers will meet at the church at 4 p.m. A pizza party will follow the caroling.

There will be no Fellowship Group meeting this month.

There will not be a poinsettia order. If any members would like to purchase their own flowers and share them with the church, it would be appreciated. They can be taken home after the 6:30 p.m. Christmas Eve service on Dec. 24.

ST. JOHN'S LUTHERAN

St. John’s Lutheran Church of Connoquenessing, 100 Main St., Connoquenessing, has again adopted a Salvation Army Family for Christmas. Those who signed up to donate Christmas gifts need to have the gifts delivered to the church by Sunday, so that the gifts can then be delivered to the Salvation Army for distribution to the assigned family.

The December Cause of the Month is also the Salvation Army Butler Chapter.

There will be a short congregational meeting immediately following the Sunday worship service to again review the 2019 church operating budget and also receive nominations for the openings in the Church Council and Cemetery Association.

ST. JOHN’S UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST

St. John’s United Church of Christ, 501 E. Main St., Evans City, will help at the Jubilee Soup Kitchen on Sunday. Members will leave the church at 8 a.m. Sunday.

ST. LUKE'S LUTHERAN

St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 310 W. Main St., Saxonburg, has a free introduction to Christ-centered yoga with certified Faith Yoga instructor Lisa Wible at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the Hattie Cooper Room.

Sunday School will have Funday Sunday at 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

Outreach Ministry will lead the 2 p.m. Sunday worship at Saxony Health Center, 223 Pittsburgh St., Saxonburg.
