The warmest hearts

With trees and power lines down all over the county during last month’s ice storm, we feel extremely blessed to call this loving community home.

Many families were left in the dark, without heat or water for days upon days. Many were longing for a safe haven, a hot meal, a warm drink, a shower, water, or simply a place to charge their electronic devices.

We are so incredibly grateful for our volunteers at the Herman Volunteer Fire Company, who were able to meet these very needs. On behalf of the officers and directors of Herman VFC, as well as the community that was served, we would like to publicly thank our volunteers who responded to more than 57 calls as well as staffed a 24-hour warming center for over a week. We are also grateful for our friends at The Herman Mini Mart, The RC Men’s Club, The Bauer family, an anonymous donor who bought our crews breakfast at Sheetz, along with other generous individuals who were gracious enough to donate much of the food we were able to supply our community.

As Mr. Rodgers always said, “When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’” So to all of our helpers: Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.
