Driver in custody after failed turn sends him down embankment

PENN TWP — The driver of a pickup truck pulling a trailer was in police custody at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday after he failed to negotiate a sharp turn near the entrance of the Saxonburg Area Authority plant on Renfrew Road in Penn Township.

The truck careened down an embankment into the woods and stopped about 20 feet short of the Connoquenessing Creek.

Police would not say why the driver of the Four College Guys truck was in custody.

The were no apparent injuries in the wreck.

The truck had an industrial leaf vacuum and rakes in the bed.

It was towing a trailer covered with a tarp, which firefighters on the scene said was empty.

It was not known at the time of the crash whether charges would be filed against the unnamed driver.
