Rock women split in Ashland

ASHLAND, Ohio — Trailing by eight points with 2:55 to play Saturday, the Slippery Rock University women's basketball team rallied for a 65-63 win over Wayne State in the first round of the Ashland Thanksgiving Tournament.

SRU (2-4) scored 11 straight points to take a 62-59 lead with 10 seconds left, then held on for the victory.

Brooke Hinderliter paced The Rock with 21 points and grabbed five rebounds. Daeja Quick had 13 points, Ciara Patterson and Madison Johnson 11 points each. Morgan Henderson grabbed 10 rebounds.

The Rock took on No. 2 Ashland in the tournament Sunday, dropping a 118-62 decision.

The victory was Ashland's 42nd consecutive home victory and 76th win its last 77 games. Ashland is 5-0 on the season.

Hinderliter had 18 points and six rebounds, Patterson 13 points in a losing cause.

SRU will begin PSAC play Dec. 3 at East Stroudsburg.

Daemen 78, SRU (men) 71 — The Rock dropped to 1-4 with this Saturday road loss in New York.

Micah Till scored 21 points and snared nine rebounds for SRU while Jared Armstrong came off the bench to score 20 points.

SRU hosts Ohio University Eastern at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Morrow Field House. The Rock is 13-0 all-time against OU Eastern, averaging 110 points per game in the series.
