Moniteau schools closed; thousands still without power

Crews were setting polls on Monday evening on South Crisswell Road in Penn Township.

About 5,600 Butler County residents were still sitting in the dark Monday evening, while one school district is still affected by Thursday's storm.

There is currently no power at Moniteau High School. The district will be closed Tuesday and then begin holiday break on Wednesday.

Central Electric Cooperative is reporting 2,670 powerless customers, while 3,009 West Penn Power customers were still in the dark at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Penn and Center townships were the hardest hit, according to the First Energy website. About 400 West Penn customers lost power in each township.

According to West Penn's figures, Butler County municipalities with the largest number of outages as of 5:30 p.m. Monday included Penn Township, 428 outages; Center Township, 324 outages; Middlesex Township, 310 outages; and Concord Township, 284 outages.
