Trucks and equipment needed to repair power lines in Butler County are placed by First Energy in Worthington. First Energy is a subsidiary of West Penn Power.

The number of West Penn Power customers who remain without electric service since Thursday's winter storm continues to drop.

More than 37,000 customers were initially left without power. The number fell to about 16,000 Sunday morning and fell to 10,663 by early evening.

“Our plan is to have the majority restored by 11 o'clock tonight,” said Todd Meyers, West Penn spokesman, on Sunday. “The focus is on the work that brings the largest number of customers back on.”

The number of Central Electric Cooperative customers fell from about 17,000 on Friday to 6,800 Sunday. Many are expected to have power restored throughout the day Monday, but some in the more rural areas won't have power until Wednesday.

“Significant progress today, total restoration Wednesday. Right now we anticipate everyone will be restored sometime Wednesday," said Ken Maleski, cooperative spokesman. "Guys are working around the clock."
