Burglary suspect shot by resident in Slippery Rock

A burglary suspect was shot by a resident early Sunday morning after throwing a brick through the glass door of a home in Slippery Rock, police said.

The suspect, Dustin Miller, 26, of Slippery Rock, was taken to Allegheny General Hospital, where he was released for a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

Police said that around 2:20 a.m. a resident called police and said that someone was rifling through his unlocked car.

He said he told the burglar, who police identified as Miller, not to enter his home. Miller then allegedly tried to kick in the front door.

After failing to gain entry, the suspect allegedly tried to enter through the garage.

When that didn't work, Miller grabbed a large boulder and threw it through the front door's glass panel, according to police documents. He walked back to his truck, police said, and then turned and walked straight toward two residents in the home.

After warning Miller a second time, one of the residents shot him, police said.

Police charged Miller with burglary, theft from a motor vehicle, criminal trespass, criminal mischief, DUI and violation of the controlled substances act.
