9:38 p.m. Tuesday — Zackary R. Nixon, 29, was more than three times the state’s legal limit for alcohol when he was arrested for drunken driving, police say, as well as for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend during a domestic dispute at his home on Third Avenue.

The woman told police that Nixon pushed her into a door frame in an upstairs bedroom, according to court documents, after coming home from a bar. She said he drove away after the incident.

Officers were at the defendant’s home when he pulled up in his car, stopping “crooked in the middle of the street,” documents said. He failed field sobriety tests.

Police took Nixon to the station for a breath test that showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.252 percent. In Pennsylvania, a level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated.

Nixon was arraigned on charges of simple assault and driving under the influence. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail.

Tuesday — Joseph R. Brandon, 31, of Butler was charged with drugged driving stemming from a call last month for a possible overdose in the area of East Wayne Street and Center Avenue.

Police said they found Brandon about 6:20 p.m. Oct. 10 on the sidewalk of the East Wayne Street viaduct. Butler Fire Department and Butler Ambulance Service crews were tending to him.

Several people told police that the defendant had crashed a vehicle into the side of the bridge, according to court documents. Officers noted they found a car that stoped halfway on the sidewalk with the driver’s side door open near where Brandon was being treated.

Police looked in the car and noticed an uncapped syringe in the cup holder and a spoon on the driver’s side floor. Additionally, documents said, there was a small container of suspected marijuana in the car.

Brandon was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. Toxicology results showed he had marijuana and fentanyl in his system, documents said.

In addition to driving under the influence of a controlled substance, Brandon is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
